What is the Oceanic Champions Circuit?
The OCC (Oceanic Champions Circuit) is a circuit of tabletop gaming tournaments, run by a coalition of event organisers within the Oceania region. If there is a gaming community in an Oceania country, the aim is to represent them.
These events run through a season, which will finish at the completion of the Oceanic Championships of Warhammer held in Melbourne VIC Australia in October (dates and venue to be confirmed each season). The players that perform the best throughout these events will gain access to the Oceanic Championships of Warhammer in addition to some amazing prizes for other categories (such as Best in Faction, Best Overall, etc.).
What Game Systems are included?
In the OCC’s first season, there will be an event and rankings circuit for Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000, Age of Sigmar, Kill Team and Underworlds. This list may be expanded over time. Each game system will have its own set of event criteria.
What makes us different?
So the OCC is not just another rankings circuit, nor does it look to replace any existing rankings circuits that may be in your area. An event can submit its results to the OCC and any other circuit they wish to. What makes us different is that the focus is less on the overall rankings, although that will be recognised, but instead will put a larger focus on individual event results. So if a player is successful at a Certified OCC event within the circuit, then the winner of that event will gain access to the Oceanic Championships of Warhammer. This will be an invitational event rather than an open event (however it may run along side an open event). In addition to winning a Certified OCC event, there will be a limited number of invitations available based on rankings in the overall circuit.
In the first season, the winners of the Oceanic Championships of Warhammer for Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar will receive flights, accomodation and entry to the Games Workshop US Open Finals held in the United States of America (dates to be confirmed each season). In addition to Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar, the OCC is committed to supporting both Kill Team and Underworlds players receiving entry to the Games Workshop US Open Finals, however the flights and accomodation will only be partially subsidised in the first season.
What is a Certified OCC Event?
While the OCC aims to be as inclusive as possible, not every event in the circuit will receive entry to the Oceanic Championships of Warhammer. Certified events will generally be larger events, meeting a small set of requirements above and beyond those of a non certified event. These will not be onerous, and will likely be already met by most event organisers.
So in a nut shell, all OCC events will receive rankings points, but only Certified OCC events will receive an automatic invitation to the Oceanic Championships of Warhammer.
How to join the Circuit
Every event that falls within the supported Game Systems is welcome to join the OCC. Whether that is a small event run by a local game store or a club, it doesn’t matter. Each event will have a limited set of requirements to join the circuit, which may vary depending on the Game System.
